DENVER AREA BARTENDER HEADING TO FINLAND TO COMPETE IN THE 10TH ANNUAL FINLANDIA VODKA CUP November 5, 2007 Denver, CO. — One area bartender will soon be packing his bags and heading to Finland to compete in the 10th Annual International Finlandia Vodka Cup Competition to be held in Lapland on Feb. 12, 2008. Rich “Nacho Biznezz” Ewing of Sugar House beat out a distinguished field of competitors to emerge as the area’s Finlandia Vodka Cup champion. “I like to experiment with flavours and ingredients and the Finlandia Vodka Cup was the perfect opportunity for me to display some of those flavours,” said Ewing. During this contest, Ewing and other competitors were critiqued by a distinguished panel of judges on their art, style and craft while making three cocktails: an aperitif, a long drink and an after-dinner drink. “The competition was definitely stiff, but I stuck to more simple, inventive recipes and I think it paid off in the drinks I prepared,” said Ewing. Every drink the bartenders’ crafted in the competition had to be a new creation based on Finlandia Vodka, or a member of its flavour family: Cranberry Fusion, Lime Fusion, Mango Fusion, Wild Berries Fusion, or Grapefruit Fusion. However, Ewing learned that the Finlandia Vodka Cup is not about finding the perfect drink. It is about finding the best bartender who understands the age-old art of crafting a cocktail using only natural ingredients Therefore, the points from each separate category were added up and Ewing was victorious. With this victory, Ewing will now compete against the world’s best bartenders in arctic homeland of Finlandia Vodka in February. The competition will be fierce but Ewing has proven to have the skills to compete. Welcome to the 10th Finlandia Vodka Cup Final and welcome to Finnish Lapland! ©2007 Finlandia Vodka Worldwide Ltd., Helsinki, Finland. Finlandia Flavoured Vodkas, 35-40% Alc./Vol. Imported by Brown-Forman Beverages, Louisville, Kentucky USA Keep your judgment pure. Drink responsibly More Denver’s newest nightclub and Martini lounge, Sugar House, is no longer known solely for its sexy and very unique décor and concept; it now boasts Denver’s most talented Bartender, Rich “Nacho Biznezz” Ewing. Last night at the Denver Martini Ranch in LoDo, twelve of Denver’s best bartenders went head to head to compete for the much coveted Finlandia Vodka Bartenders cup. Unlike most bartending competitions which any booze slinger can enter, Finlandia Cup competitors were all nominated by industry insiders and reps from Republic National liquor distributor. The competition, overseen by five judges ranging from magazine editors to food critics was based on three categories, best before dinner drink, best long drink, and best after dinner drink. According to Michael Rasp, brand manager for Finlandia, Nacho Biznezz not just won, but “crushed the competition by winning two of the three categories, and almost won the third category. Most bartenders do well with one category and are weak in the other two, but Nacho from Sugar House created two category winners and came very close to dominating all three, truly impressive consistency and bartending talent”. Rich “Nacho Biznezz” Ewing is brother and head bartender of Scottie Ewing's controversial Sugar House. Sugar House owner, Scottie Ewing is ecstatic since he has been boasting of the Sugar House cocktail menu created by Nacho and its talented bar staff touting their drinks as the best Denver nightclubs and martini bars have to offer. “This just reaffirms our “Cocktail Chef” concept”, a term created by Scottie Ewing to describe the mixing talents of his brother and bar staff. “We’re not just Denver’s most Unique Premium Lounge and Nightclub, we have the cocktails and bar staff to back it up with the talent of bartenders like Nacho Biznezz”. Sugar House’s “Nacho Biznezz” Rich Ewing, will be flown to Finland February 12th pitted against several other U.S. winners from other states. The US winner will go against bartenders from 19 other countries vying for the coveted 10th Annual International Finlandia Vodka Cup. Last year’s world champ was also from Denver, Colorado. We wish Sugar Houses’s “Nacho Biznezz” Rich Ewing good luck in Finland. To contact “Nacho Biznezz” Rich Ewing, or Sugar House owner Scottie Ewing: 303.777.9900 |
